In Part I Signy, daughter of Volsung marries the treacherous Siggeir, King of the Goth-folk. Odin, the All-Father appears at the wedding in disguise and plunges a mighty sword in the depths of the center tree of Volsung's hall. All the men attempt to pull it free but fail.
